Dubrovnik 5K race raised 13,776 euros for Marko Akrap
The sight of Stradun filled with the recognizable blue shirts of the Dubrovnik 5K race was one of the most emotional moments of Du Motion this year. A thousand race participants joined together to send a strong message of support to little Marko Akrap from Nova Mokošica, collecting 13,776 euros to help with further treatment.
As a reminder, the ten-year-old Marko boy is faced with extremely rare genetic disorders, partial trisomy 18 and monosomy 12, which require 24-hour care.
"A big thank you to everyone who joined this year's race and contributed to its success by running or cheering on the Stradun. The response of our fellow citizens and the incredibly positive atmosphere during the race fill us with immense pride, especially since little Marko himself attended the race. We thank everyone once again for the patience and support they showed us in the realization of the entire project, above all the Police Department of Dubrovnik-Neretva county and all city services, as well as our wonderful volunteers whose enthusiasm and effort keeps Du Motion at such a high level," said Du Motion director Alen Bošković .
Those who 5K was ran for in earlier years also took part in this year's race: coordinators Karla Sentić and Ante Kolundjija presented the winning trophies to the fastest participants, the youngest coordinator Nevio Krešić ran the race again, while the representatives of the Down Syndrome Association of Dubrovnik-Neretva county handed out medals runners.
