Pelješac Bridge confirms its status as the most special running track in Croatia

alt

Since its inception, the Pelješac Bridge Run has been known in the running community as a unique experience: the opportunity to run across one of the most impressive bridges in this part of Europe only comes once a year.

It is therefore not surprising that this sporting event, which has been jointly organized by Du Motion and Hrvatske ceste for the fifth year in a row on the eve of the Croatian Nationhood Day, has once again attracted great interest. All available places, 500 of them, were filled almost immediately, and the starting list included participants from 12 countries. In addition to numerous domestic runners, there were also those from Slovenia, Montenegro, Poland, Germany, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, the Czech Republic, Australia, Russia, the USA and Peru.

On the 5.5-kilometer track, which is run in both directions over the bridge at dusk, the fastest this time were Marin Desnica (19:29) in the men's category and Rita Biliš (22:45) in the women's category.

The complete standings and official results of all participants can be viewed here.

Not everyone was chasing the best possible time, among the runners there were many recreational athletes, parents with children, and even those for whom this was the first race in their life. Their priority was to experience the bridge from a completely different perspective. Running in the golden light of the setting sun, with the sea and islands under your feet, is an experience that can hardly be compared to any other trail.

"The Pelješki bridge is special in itself, and when we "give it over" to the runners for a short time like this, an atmosphere is created that is difficult to describe. The bridge connects the shores, but also people, and this can be felt at every moment, from the gathering before the start, to the celebration at the finish line. Even though we increased the number of starting places, the race filled up extremely quickly again, which confirms that it has become something that people eagerly await year after year," pointed out Du Motion director Alen Bošković.

All those who did not manage to get their starting number in time will have a new chance in a year. But there is no doubt that even then they will have to be very quick, because those who experience it once, regularly return to it.
